The aim of the study was optimization of diagnostics and treatment of primary benign orbital cavity tumour. The research encompassed 48 patients surgically treated in the Otolaryngology Clinics CMUJ in Krakow in the years 1998-2004 due to the primary, benign orbital cavity tumour. The subject of the analysis was data from the specialist history data, results of the oculist examination before and after the surgical treatment, the results of the pictorial/graphic examination: KT with contrast, MRI, the type of surgical treatment and the way the change occurred and the final result of histopathological examination of the material collected during orbitotomy. The analysis allowed to formulate the following conclusions: 1. The most frequent primary benign orbital cavity tumours are: cavernous angioma and pseudo-tumours. 2. Side orbitotomia according to Kronlein is the selection method at primary treatment of the benign tumour of the orbital cavity. 3. The basis for surgical treatment is possibly best visualization of the tumour thanks to radiological treatment and properly selected way of surgical access. 4. Surgical treatment of primary benign orbital cavity tumours allows to maintain function of the organ of vision, except for the tumour the removal of which requires cutting the optic nerve.
