The aim of the study was to evaluate the respiratory system efficiency and breathing regulation within a group of people addicted to alkohol. The study group consisted of 59 men, admitted with symptoms of acute ethanol poisoning. The control group consisted of 30 social drinkers . Ventilation efficiency was monitored on the basis of the resilts from a „ flow- volume” curve, spirometry and measurements of the respiratory standard and occlusion pressure. In the study group the number of pathological valves attributed to small and central bronchhi obturation was higher with the alkoholicus than with the social drinkers. To alkohol the respiratory standard was also the occlussion pressure; similarly the blood acetaldehyde concentratuion was noticeably higher with the ethanol- addicted-patients. Likewisee , a significant negative interdependence between the blond acetaldehyde concentration ad the parameters of the „flow – volume” curve was noticed. In relation to VT, TIN ad TTOT the dependence was observed as positive. It all leads to the conclusion, that the re is a great dependence bet ween the ventilation efficiency and the blood acetaldehyde concentration.
