Bronchial asthma is a chronic disease, leading to durable handicap of work of the respiratory system. Paroxysmal dyspnoea and tormenting cough which characterize asthma, discriminate patients’ quality of life greatly. From all of the allergic diseases asthma is the most frequent cause of sickness absence, hospitalization, disability and deceases. In the view of these facts, it was decided to examine the level of patients' knowledge about the disease and estimate the quality of life before the educational program at School for the Sick from Asthma began and then 6 months after it ended. The investigated group included 100 persons suffering from bronchial asthma participating in the educational program at School for the Sick from Asthma at the II Chair of Internal Diseases CMUJ in Krakow. To conclude, the research proved that the program increased the level of knowledge and improved the quality of life of the sick persons participating in the trainings at School for Sick from Asthma.
