Title: Photodegradation of pefloxacin in solutions and solid phase including effect of metal ions

Abstract:

Developed at the Inorganic and Analytical Chemistry Department method chromatography-densitometric used to qualitative and quantitative determination of pefloxacin and its photodegradation products. After UV irradiation of pefloxacin were examined stability without the metal ions and in the presence of metal ions. The test was in neutral, acidic and alkaline solutions and solid phase. It was shown that selected metal ions, Al (III), Cu (II), Zn (II) and Fe (III) increase or decrease the process of pefloxacin photodegradation in varying degrees, depending on the type of ion, test environment and exposure time. Both in solutions and solid phase degradation of pefloxacin proceeds according to the first row kinetics. The fastest degradation of pefloxacin is in alkaline solution - kOH- = 11,515·10-3[h-1], slower in acidic - kH+ = 8,981·10-3[h-1] and in neutral environment - k H+/ OH- = 4,60·10-3[h-1], and the slowest in solid phase - k=18,424·10-4[h-1]. Calculated values t0,1 and t0,5 and allow for the conclusion that the fastest photodegradation is likely in the presence of Al (ITI) in neutral environment and in the presence of ions Al (IlI) and Zn (II) in acidic environment. Photodegradation slow down ions Cu (II) and Fe (III) when the exposure neutral and acidic solutions, and all metal ions investigation in alkaline solutions. Identified products of pefloxacin photodegradation. ; Depending on the environmental response are different products photodegradation as a result of reaction such as oxidation, reduction, alkylation, methylation, acylation and defluoration.
