Protocol FAST (Focused Assessment with Sonography for Trauma) for patients with abdomen and pelvic injuries, has a vital role in Emergency Medical Service. The aim of this disertation was to assess the application of the FAST protocol to patients with abdomen/pelvic injuries admitted to the Emergency Units. 93 714 patient cases from 3 different Emergency Units were analysed. 708 patients were qualified for the next stage of analisys. Finally 215 patient cases were chosen in which the FAST protocol should heve been applied in the early stage of diagnosis. Risk of failing to apply the protocol was influenced by factors such as patient’s age, type and localization of injury, hospital referentiality and proffessional skills of the physicians. 73,5% of patients with indications for application of FAST protocol during initianl assessment did not receive that examination. It seems that the meaning of ultrasonography as a useful diagnostic tool should be emphasized within the personel of Emergency Units.
