Praca doktorska
The aim of the doctoral dissertation was to estimate the antihypertensive treatment and treatment effects achieved in older residents with arterial hypertension and other cardiovascular diseases in various types of long-term care facilities (LTCF); determining the relationship between the presence of hypertension, its treatment, functional status and mortality, and estimating the predictors of death in an institutionalized population with severe disability. A series of publications constituting the basis of the doctoral dissertation showed that insufficient treatment of cardiovascular diseases among LTCF residents may be a risk factor for poor prognosis. Moreover, the study proved that proper treatment of arterial hypertension can improve prognosis and extend the survival time of older LTCF residents with multimorbidity. The degree of disability assessed using the geriatric scale- Barthel index had no effect on survival in the population of the long-term care hospital. Better nutritional status on the MNA-SF scale was associated with better prognosis and longer survival time among residents with multimorbidity and severe disabilities.
