Title: Selected elements of the pathogenesis of Clostridium difficile infection

Abstract:

The first study ("The presence of IL 8 +781 T/C polymorphism is associated with the parameters of severe Clostridium difficile infection") indicates that the presence of IL 8 +781 T/C is associated with the severe CDI. The presence of the IL 1 β +3953 A/G, 31 A/G and IL 8 +781 T/C genetic polymorphisms does not have a role in the development or recurrence of CDI. The second study (Clostridium difficile caused changes in FAs profile nd resolvin D1 (RvD1) content in plasma of infected patients") found that there are distinct changes in plasma FA during CDI. In the case of patients with a good outcomes, it was probably observed the effective resolution of inflamm ation, as reflected in n 3 FA metabolism and its significant decrease in relative to the control group. The third study (The level of fecal calprotectin significantly correlates with Clostridium difficile infection severity found that FC is an indication of ongoing intestinal inflammation in CDI patients. The FC levels significantly correlated with CDI severity, which shows it could prospectively serve as a predictive marker for assessing CDI severity. The ongoing search for CDI severity markers is particularly vital, enabling fast and optimal treatment approach, which is crucial in CDI therapy.
