The aim of the study was to develop criteria for choosing the use of a bilaminar method, single-layered method or leaving a wound for granulation to treat gingival defect after removal of a benign gingival tumor from the area of the toothed alveolar process in the absence of the keratinized gum in the apical part of the surgical defect. Conclusions 1.Intraoperative assessment of the height of soft tissue defect, the height of the exposed tooth root and local conditions allows the selection of the appropriate method of restorative treatment 2.The presence of intact bone in the bottom of the surgical defect allows for proper periodontal regeneration without the use of local plastic surgery 3.The bilaminar method seems to give more predictable aesthetic and functional results in case of a reduced bone substrate in the bottom of the surgical defect 4.The single-layer method, in the absence of gingiva on the periphery of the flap and with reduced bone substrate in the bottom of the surgical defect, should not be used 5.The basic treatment of benign gingival tumours is their excision within macroscopically healthy tissues with their histopathological assessment 6.The pre-surgical scaling and the patient’s education on improving oral hygiene results in a reduction of inflammation associated with benign gingival tumours.
