Title: Evaluation of the effectiveness of short-term group psychotherapy in the context of attachment style and perception of group relations among patients who suffer from personality disorders, eating disorders and neurosis

Abstract:

The aim of the research was empirical analysis of perception of group relationships by patients with different attachment styles and effectiveness of their treatment of short-term group psychotherapy. Research included 109 outpatients who suffer from neurosis, personality disorders and eating disorders, who attended in psychodynamic-interpersonal short-term group psychotherapy. Research was conducted in the beginning and the end of the 12-week psychotherapy treatment cycle. Results: 1) Reported changes in perception in group relationships, which were consist with therapeutic expectations for all four attachment styles (with mother, father and in adulthood); 2) Reported changes, which confirm effectiveness of group psychotherapy for all four attachment styles (with mother, father and in adulthood): reduction of symptoms, enhance of self-esteem, improvement in subjective emotional well-being; 3) Dimensions of attachment style with parents, turned out to be partly predictors of changes in perception of group relations, but dimensions of attachment style in adulthood weren’t predictors of such changes. 4) Dimensions of attachment style with parents and in adulthood, were predictors of changes in self-esteem, but weren’t predictors of changes in symptoms and emotional well-being.
