Praca doktorska
The aim of this study was to optimize the treatment of patients with retrobulbar, intraorbital orbital tumors. The study group consisted of 78 patients admitted to the Clinical Department of Otolaryngology in Krakow from 2007 to 2015 due to a tumor of the orbit and operated with lateral orbitotomy, but in the modification of the Jagiellonian University Department of Otolaryngology. The study group was divided into two main groups: the patients operated on one year prior to the evaluation, and the patients operated on at least three years prior to the evaluation ( benign changes), and at least five years earlier (malignant tumors).Checking the patient's condition one year after orbitotomy, we observed statistically significant improvement in terms of exophthalmus. Improvement was also observed in terms of double vision, swelling of the eyelids, tearing, pain in the eye socket and headaches. In the long-term control after surgery a further reduction of exophthalmus was reported. On the basis of the questionnaire it was found that health improvement declared as much as 70% of patients one year after surgery and approximately 58% of patients many years after surgery.
