Title: Mechanizm działania seleno-krzemowych pochodnych peptydów w procesie karcinogenezy w modelach in-vitro

Abstract:

According to current state of knowledge, selenium and sulphur containing compounds can inhibit cancer cell growth. The aim of this study was to examine selenomethionine (SeMet), selenium peptide derivatives containing SeMet (SeP) and their sulfur analog (SP) for their ability to affect the Wnt/β-catenin pathway and cell apoptosis. All experiments were carried out using in-vitro models: human colorectal cancer cells HT-29, human pancreatic cancer cells Panc-1 and normal human keratinocites HaCat (control). Studies have revealed that SeMet, SeP as well as SP affect the Wnt/β-catenin pathway and cell apoptosis. However, degree of their anticancer potency is highly variable and depends both on the specific chemical structure (selenium/sulphur) of these compounds and on the origin and type of the cells. Besides SeMet, other tested compounds are effective only at very high concentrations that are damaging for normal cells. Thus, their therapeutic use in living organisms seems unlikely.
