Praca doktorska
The present doctoral thesis focuses on the problem of cardiovascular risk profile in patients with GN manifesting as nephrotic syndrome with preserved renal function. It aims to assess an expression of ‘classical’ and ‘inflammatory’ markers of atherosclerosis as well as the advancement of arterial vascular lesions in non-invasive techniques. The aim of study was the assessment of systemic inflammatory response in patients with nephrotic-range proteinuria and biopsy-proven primary GN in whom other major causes of inflammation were excluded. Another aims were to assess the type and advancement of expression in ‘traditional’ markers of atherosclerosis risk and evaluate the arterial structure and function using non-invasive measures, e.i. common-carotid artery intima-media thickness (CCA-IMT) and aortic pulse wave velocity (AoPWV) among the patients belong to study group (30 patients). Estimated parameters were matched against the results from control groups: ESRD patients (31 individuals) and healthy volunteers (20 persons). Obtain results may point on the importance of an early and multi-dimensional prophylaxis of atherosclerosis in patients with primary GN and nephrotic syndrome, that could include lifestyle modifications, nutritional behavior changes, lipid lowering therapies. Achieving remission of GN seems essential to prevent cardiovascular complications.
