Title: Determination of Zn(II), Cu(II), Se(IV), Cd(II) and Pb(II) by stripping voltammetry in the raw plant materials


In this work methods for the determination of zinc, copper, selenium, cadmium and lead by stripping voltammetry was developped. The developed method was validated by procedure including the analysis of certified reference materials: mixed polish herbs (IC-INCT-MPH-2), tea leaves (INCT-TL-1), virginia tobacco leaves (CTA-VTL-2) and bovine liver (BCR-185). The application of this method was confirmed by the analysis of plant raw materials. The results for selected raw materials did not differ significantly from the results obtained for selected raw materials by total reflection X-ray fluorescence spectrometry (TXRF).Evaluation was performed for 64 plant materials derived from 61 species and 24 families of plants tested for the analyzed elements in the various morphological parts of plants. To determine the correlation between the elements studied, Pearson correlation analysis, principal component analysis (PCA) and cluster analysis were used.Based on the results of the tests concentration range of elements in the raw plant materials was specified, which for zinc was 9.5 - 59 mgkg-1, copper 0.7 - 13 mgkg-1, selenium 11.6 - 489 gkg-1, cadmium 0.1 - 0.86 mgkg-1 and lead 0.05 - 2.41 mgkg-1. In each tested group positive correlations of raw materials for a couple Zn/Cu was established, which was the most significantly correlated in the group of herbs. Strongly positively correlated pair of elements (Cd/Pb) was observed in the group of herbs (r = 0.825, p < 0.05) and seeds and fruits (r = 0.826, p < 0.05). However, negative correlation (r = -0.690, p < 0.05) was shown between copper and cadmium content in the seeds and fruits.
