The aim of the dissertation was to analyze reasons witch could have influence of local recurrence of choroidal melanoma after ruthenium-106 brachytherapy. The retrospective analysis 355 patients with choroidal melanoma after ruthenium-106 brachytherapy treated in the Department of Ophthalmology and Ocular Oncology in Kraków between 1995 and 2007 was performed. The mean time to melanoma recurrence was 29.15 months for all recurrence types. There was significant relationship between recurrence and retinal detachment present at the time of diagnosis, tumor shape and large size. Unfavourable significant relationship between recurrence and tumor localization with marginal touch of optic disc and with anterior margin in 1-2 optic disc diameter from macula was found. There was significant relationship between recurrence and use of COB plaque with supplementary transpupilar thermotherapy. Among other risk factors for recurrence there was significant relationship between recurrence and dose to the tumor base, visibility of tumor base shade during transillumination, doubts in precise plaque placement. There was significant relationship between recurrence and presence of metastasis
