The aim of the work is to assess the connection between the image of the family members and the relations within the generation family as well as the present interpersonal relationships and the intensity of the neurotic symptoms. The study was based on the data collected from a form for personal details and questionnaire "O'' Symptom Check-list. The group examined consisted of 2044 women and 1086 men. In the statistical analysis a step-by-step multidimensional regression was used to assess the strongest risk factors connected with the intensity of symptoms. More connections were found between the image of the partner in the present relationship and the relations with him and the intensity of the neurotic symptoms than between the image of the generation family and the intensity of the neurotic symptoms. Additionally, the factors connected with the intensity of the neurosis are gender and age dependent, and depend also on the relationship developmental phases. The higher level of symptoms was found in the group of women in a relationship than in single women, contrary to the group of men. In the group of women the lack of stability of the relationship has stronger connection with the higher intensity of the neurosis than in the group of men. In the group of men, lack of satisfaction in the relationship is connected more with the higher intensity of the neurot ; ic symptoms. Also, in the group of men the leadership in the relationship has stronger connection with the intensity of the neurosis than in the group of women. In contrast to the group of women, the awareness to be in authority is decreased by the neurotic symptoms in the group of men.
