The study aimed at evaluating the usefulness of HRT m the diagnostics of the glaucomatous optic neuropathy and in monitoring of disease progression in the patients with the primary open- angle glaucoma with elevated (POAG) and normal (NTG) intraocular pressure, as well as finding the correlation between the HR T results and clinical stage of glaucomatous changes of optic disc and visual field defects. The study group consisted of 58 patients ( 116 eyes), 40 women and 18 men. There were 26 patients (52 eyes) with the diagnosis of POAG and 32 (64 eyes) with NTG. Control group of 15 healthy volunteers (30 eyes) consisted of 13 women and 2 men. Mean time of follow-up was 2 years. Comparative analysis of glaucoma patients and healthy volunteers was statistically significant for all analysed parameters except of the maximal cup depth. There were no significant differences in the HR T parameters between both groups of glaucoma patients. A clear correlation was observed between the increasing progression of the optic disc damage and lowering of the quantitative parameters obtained by HRT. The discrimination analysis using the elimination of variables showed that the strongest parameters of HRT that determine final result of the examination are C/D ratio. RA and CSM. The analysis of the relationship between the selected parameters obtained by HRT and the visual field abnormalities showe ; d that most significant in POAG are: RA and CSM. In the patients with NTG most relevant is C/D ratio and the CSM, all these parameters being significantly related to size of the disc area.
