Abstract:

Oral cavity as the first part of digestive tract is constantly exposed to the mechanical and chemical impairment. Sensory neurons and mediators released from their endings plays a role in the healing process. The aim of the present study was to establish the importance of sensory fibers and mediators released from their endings in the healing of the experimentally induced chemical ulcerations of the oral cavity and to evaluate mechanism which underlies their action. Experiments were carried out on the rats. Sensory C fibers were stimulated and blocked (with acutely and chronically administered Capsaicin – respectively) CGRP1 receptors were stimulated and blocked by CGRP 50 mg/kg i.p. oraz CGRP 8-37 – 50 mg/kg i.p respectively. Pharmacological maneuvers were carried out on the animals with normal and 50 % reduced blood flow in the area of ECA. Microcirculatory blood flow, lesion area and degree of impairment were examined (planimetricaly and histologicaly). Obtained results indicate that capsaicin sensitive C fibers and CGRP1 receptors activity increases ability of oral mucosa to heal acetic acid induced ulcerations of the mucosa. This effect is mostly blood flow dependent. Protective influence of the C fibers and their mediators are particularly important in the mucosa of the tongue what is probably related to high neural density in this oral cavity area. Effects of the partial ; arterial occlusion are particularly intensified in the area of buccal mucosa what is probably related to the small number of collateral vessels.
