Tytuł: Somatoform symptoms and associated personality dysfunctions in neurotic or personality disorders
Abstrakt:
The presented research concemed symptoms of dyspnea, pollakiuria and urmary incontinence, as well as hypochondriac symptoms reported by patients qualified for psychotherapy due to neurotic or personality disorders. The studies on associations of selected somatoform (somatic) symptoms with personality traits were based on data from medical records of 1694 women and 756 men qualified for treatment m the years 2004-2014. The Neurotic personality questionnaire KON-2006 was used to assess personality traits. The study conceming hypochondriac complaints was based on data from medical records of 2582 women and 1347 men qualified for treatment in 1980-2002 and 2218 women and 972 men qualified for treatment in 2004-2015. The analyzed symptoms (apart from urmary incontinence) were reported by around 40% to around 60% of patients. Relationships between the occurrence and extreme severity of dyspnea and lower urinary tract symptoms and the neurotic personality traits were described, including the importance of the traits measured by Impulsivity, Sense of lack of control, Envy, Narcissistic attitude, Sense of being in danger, Negative self-esteem and Demobilization scales. Pattems of coexistence of hypochondriacal complaints with somatoform (somatic) symptoms were also described. In clinical practice it is advisable to take into account the indicated dysfunctional person ; ality traits of patients reporting the analyzed somatoform (somatic), as well as the impact of those symptoms on the self-image and functioning of patients.
