Tytuł: Selected aspects of nursing care for patients treated surgically due to morbid obesity

Abstrakt:

Introduction: The role of a nurse in the process of surgical treatment of obesity is not only limited to to care activities, but also concerns the coordination of care both at the stage of care both before and after surgery. The nurse is responsible for patient education. Implementation of recommendations (compliance) is important in the pre- and postoperative period. Aims of the study: Evaluation of nurses' knowledge about the surgical treatment of obesity. Rating impact of patient education on treatment outcomes. Assessment of how compliance affects the results treatment. Material and methods: A survey to assess knowledge about bariatric treatment among nursing staff. Prospective analysis of a group of patients treated surgically with due to morbid obesity. Results: Nurses declared knowledge of the principles of recognition, classification of obesity, qualification rules, methods of surgical treatment and rules of postoperative care. In a group of educated patients, a significantly better reduction of body weight was observed before the procedure and 12 months after treatment. In patients with a higher degree of implementation of the recommendations, the degree of reduction weight gain as well as improvement in the treatment of comorbidities are higher. Conclusions: The knowledge of the nursing staff in the field of bariatric surgery is satisfac ; tory. The role of the nurse in educating patients and coordinating care was defined as significant. Patient education leads to improved weight reduction results body in the pre- and postoperative period. Patients with a high degree of adherence to recommendations achieve greater weight loss and improved treatment of obesity-related diseases.
