Title: Dysfunctions of the extension apparatus knee joint in people training Crossfit

Abstract:

INTRODUCTION: Scientific literature gives many reasons for the development of the knee extension apparatus dysfunction. One of the most frequently mentioned reasons is the regular practice of sports that include jumping elements. At the same time, strength training is mentioned as another main cause of knee extension dysfunction. The available publications, do not represent enough detailed of what forms of strength sports or exercises with the use of weights may be the cause of knee extension dysfunction. By analyzing these publications, it can be noticed the need for a more details examination of which exercises or what elements of these exercises may be the cause of knee extension dysfunction. OBJECTIVE: The main aim of the study was to determine whether there is an adverse effect of practicing the CrossFit sport discipline on the development of knee extension apparatus dysfunction. It was also investigated whether incorrect performance of individual exercises: squat, lunge, landing after jumping, getting up from sitting on low ground, deadlift may have an impact on the development of knee extension apparatus dysfunction. MATERIAL AND METHODS: The research was made at the Private Rehabilitation Center in Rzeszów in 2020/21. A total of 60 active men took part in the study. All participants were at the time of the study between 30 to 40 years of age. For the study, men were d ; ivided into two groups of 30: men regularly practicing CrossFit and a control group consisting of men regularly practicing sports in which no additional load is used. To qualify for participation in the study, all participants were examined by a physiotherapist on the basis of the original study card. All participants performed the following exercises: squat, lunge, landing after jumping, standing from the sit on low ground, and deadlift with a barbell. The way the exercises were performed by the participants was recorded using the MVN Biomech motion imaging and measurement system, which allows for accurate contact measurements to be obtained. RESULTS: Incorrect performance of exercises characteristic for the CrossFit discipline (squat, lunge forward, landing after landing) and disturbed elasticity of the muscles of the lower limbs may cause knee extension dysfunction. CONCLUSIONS: The performed research has shown the negative impact of regular practicing the CrossFit sport discipline on the knee extension apparatus.
