Abstrakt:

The best known function of vitamin K1 is the role of a cofactor in the post-translational carboxylation of proteins involved in blood coagulation processes, synthesized in the liver. Extrahepatic activities, including vasoprotective effects, have so far been attributed rather to vitamin K2. Recently, however, there have been several studies that showed that low levels of vitamin K1 in the blood correlated with increased cardiovascular risk. The main aim of this monography was to investigate whether vitamin K1 may have a comparable vasoprotective activity as vitamin K2, and to explain the mechanisms of this action. The results of the research proved that vitamin K1 is as effective as vitamin K2 in its vasoprotective activity. The mechanism of this action may be related to the inhibition of cell senescence and the inhibition of the inflammatory response. Vitamin K1 deficiency diet resulted in impaire of endothelial function, which wwas restored by effective vitamin K1 supplementation. An example of a carrier ensuring high efficiency of vitamin K1 delivery to vessel wall are hyaluronic capsules with an oil core, the effectiveness of which has been proven in this work. The obtained results suggest that effective delivery of vitamin K1 to the vascular wall is necessary to obtain a therapeutic effect, which may explain earlier, inconsistent reports on the vaso ; protective effect of vitamin K1.
