Title: Static and dynamic balance in patients after hip arthroplasty due to degenerative changes, depending on the type of endoprosthesis
Abstract:
Introduction The assessment of balance disorders in patients after hip arthroplasty can be used, among others, to diagnose the risk of falls, it allows to target and evaluate the treatment proces. Objective of the work The aim of the study was to assess the functional efficiency, balance, pain level and quality of life in patients after hip arthroplasty, depending on the type of implanted endoprosthesis. Moreover, the aim of study was to answer the question, whethere there is the correlation between the clinical tests used and the tests on the balance platform? Material and methods 100 patients after hip arthriplasty were included in the study. The patients were divided into two groups (group 1 - short stem, group 2 - conventional). The Harris scale was used to assess functional efficiency. To assess the balance tests on balance platform and tests: Timed up and go test, Tinetti test aand Berg scale were used. In addition, the VAS scale and RAND SF-36 questionnaire were used to assess the quality of life. Results In the tests on the balance platform and in selected tests, patients with short stem obtained results indicating a better balance. A correlation was observed between the results obtained in the tests on the platform and results of functional tests assessing balance. Conclusions The balance platform can be used to objectively evaluate a patients after hip arthro ; plasty. The observed correlation with the results of functional tests may be a tip for physiotherapists in the selection of tests.
