The aim of this study was to characterize changes in concentration profiles of selected interleukins (IL-1β, IL-6) and antagonist (IL-1Ra) in gingival cervical fluid during canine distalization in 17 children aged 13 to 18 years. Cytokine levels were measured in the gingival cervical fluid before the first and second activation of braces, as well as 48 and 168 hours thereafter. On the second day after activation the third tooth in the jaw at the distal direction there was a significant increase in concentration in the gingival crevicular fluid IL-1β/protein collected at both the mesial and distal side of the tooth. On the seventh day after activation a decrease in the concentration of fluid IL-1β/protein has been observed at the mesial and distal sides, observing statistical significance only in the case of fluid from the mesial. On the seventh day after activation a decrease in the concentration of fluid IL-1β/protein has been observed at the mesial and distal sides, observing statistical significance only in the case of fluid from the mesial sides. The IL-1β/protein ratio increased significantly on the seventh day after the second activation at the mesial and distal sides. There were no significant differences in the ratios of IL-1/IL-1RA for tooth 1.3. On the second and seventh day after activation, IL-1/IL-1RA increased in the gingival cervical fluid collected at the distal ; side of the experimental tooth 2.3.
