Tytuł: Infections and infectious foodborne diseases transmited via ingestion among the citizens of Silesian voivodeship
Abstrakt:
The demographic, socio-economic, and cultural changes that have occurred in the last decade and the progressing globalization pose new challenges for sanitary and epidemiological supervision. The aim of the study was to assess the frequency of occurrence and the etiology of foodborne infections and diseases in the Silesian voivodeship, in the years 2008-2019. In the descriptive type of the study, based on secondary epidemiological data recorded by the Provincial Sanitary and Epidemiological Station, the Silesian Provincial Office, and the National Health Fund in Katowice, it was confirmed that: 1. The number and structure of the incidence have changed; at the beginning of the study, salmonellosis related to mass nutrition dominated, currently, the number of Clostridium difficile infections is dominant, mainly in treatment and care units. 2. The profile of hospitalization due to selected food-borne infectious diseases indicated by the Silesian voivodeship registry is in line with the trend observed by the State Sanitary Inspection. 3. It was identified seasonality in the case of bacterial outbreaks (maximum number in summer and autumn) and viral outbreaks (maximum number in winter-spring season), moreover, significant territorial variability was also observed. 4. It has been demonstrated that there is a lack of consistency in food-borne infectious disease registers kept by i ; ndependent public health institutions. It is necessary to create one, consistent register combining data on illnesses extended to include medical history, hospitalizations, and deaths
