Quality assurance of pharmaceutical services is possible through the implementation of quality standards and related procedures. Therefore, the purpose of the research was to develop standard operating procedures for dispensing of medicines and for the provision of information about them. The program ‘Reliability, Quality, Safety’ was prepared. 14 procedures concerned these services were developed and 5 related surveys. After the recruitment of participants, observational study was conducted. Pharmacies were visited by the observer, who carried out surveys during pharmacist/technicians work. Then the participants implemented procedures for a fixed period of time during the daily work, and then again the observer visited the pharmacy and filled out questionnaires. Implementation of procedures favorably affected the rate of many performed activities, e.g. patient identification, verification of patient’s knowledge, provision of information about using and storage of medicines, checking the expiry dates and doses of medicines, assuring if the patient understood the directions. Participants judged that the procedures are clear, make work easier and positively affect its quality, so they should be applied in a pharmacy. Standard operating procedures have improved the quality of both analyzed pharmaceutical services contributing to ensure the effective and safe pharmacotherapy.
