The aim of the research was to assess the impact of the PNF method on the independence of elderly people hospitalized in the geriatric ward. The study group consisted of patients hospitalized in the geriatric ward, aged 65 years and over, meeting the inclusion criteria until the number of people of 80. The patients were randomly divided into two groups of 40: the group rehabilitated with the PNF method, the group rehabilitated with general rehabilitation. Rehabilitation treatment will take place every day for a maximum of 10 working days, 45 minutes a day. The patients were examined twice before the rehabilitation and after a maximum of 10 days of rehabilitation. Each patient underwent an interview containing basic data about the patient, i.e. age, sex, information on past and current diseases, type of professional work, day of hospitalization in the hospital, and a functional fitness assessment with regard to the applied elements of a comprehensive geriatric assessment . The evaluation was performed twice in each of the patients. The first time since the patient was commissioned for rehabilitation. The second time after a maximum of 10 working days from the end of individual therapy with the patient using the PNF method or general rehabilitation. Each patient underwent a study to assess basic vital functions (ADL), complex vital functions (IADL), fall risk ; (stand up and walk test) and physical fitness (Short Physical Performance Battery test) and subjective assessment of the feeling of fitness assessed using the numerical scale of the NRS.
