Title: Modeling of the emergency department's work system

Abstract:

The thesis raises, in a board sense, problems of the emergency departments' work optimization. It refers to both: improving the patients' flow and staff planning, using automation. The thesis discusses related topics that have a significant impact on the emergency departments' work organization, such as legal and cultural aspects. For the purpose of the study a data was collected through a survey, participant observation and a query of medical records. Microsoft Excel and RStudio programs were used to develop the data. Among others, the 'DEoptim' package available in RStudio was used for automation. The chi-square test and Wilcoxon test were used in the statistical analysis. The issue of emergency departments' work organization is the subject of many scientific studies worldwide, raising more and more detailed aspects. In Poland, due to the relatively recent time of emergence of this medical field, there are currently no comprehensive studies. The total time range, in which the analyzed data closes, is 2016-2019. The research itself was conducted in 2018-2019 at the Hospital Emergency Department of the University Hospital in Krakow. As a large academic unit of the third degree of reference, it served as a model example of the emergency department. During the research, the process of collecting surveys from patients of the Hospital Emergency Department proved to be difficult ; .
