Tytuł: Age and health as potential factors of women's and men's exclusion from the labor market

Abstrakt:

Exclusion from the labour market is becoming a common problem, which affects more and more various groups; women who provide unpaid housework and caregiving, employers who are close to retirement age, people who have been diagnosed with chronic diseases or mental health disorder. This is the context in which this doctoral dissertation was developed. The main aim was to assess the factors of women’s and men’s exclusion from the labour market. The evaluation focused on two most important aspects – the impact of women’s and men’s age and their health on professional activity. Their health was measured by self-rated health and diagnosed chronic diseases. To achieve the aim data from two different international studies were used. Conducted research enabled to recognize factors correlated with early exit from the labour market. The analyses also allowed to identify four groups of factors that are important in the process of withdrawal from the labour market, these are: socio-demographic factors, health conditions, occupational characteristics and institutional factors. In the dissertation, numerous barriers have been identified that make it difficult to enter or remain on the labour market when a chronic disease is diagnosed, as well as factors pushing people a retirement age out of the labour market. All these issues were discussed in the series of articles constituting the doctor ; al dissertation. A literature review, interviews with experts, conducted research and analyses made it possible to formulate recommendations for policy makers, employers, HR staff and healthcare professionals in terms of extending occupational activity.
