Abstract:
Introduction: Osteoarthritis causes a number of physical ailments which may causes influence the individual’s wellbeing deteriorating their life quality. Aim: The aim ot the thesis was to evaluate the influence of a person’s physical condition and one’s personal resources upon the quality of lives of patients with osteoarthritis of the knee joint. Material and methods: 300 persons were involved, including 150 patients with gonarthrosis and 150 persons without any diagnosed diseases within the lower limbs motor organs. In the study were used: Life Orientation Test (LOT-R), Generalised Self Efficacy Scale (GSES), Western Ontario and McMaster Universities Osteoarthritis Index (WOMAC), Lequesne Algofunctional Index (ISK) and the World Health Organization Quality of Life WHOQOL-BREF. For the statistical analysis of the results nonparametric tests were applied, adopting the significance level p<0.05. Results: The most persons under study suffering from gonarthrosis were characterized by serious or severe impairment of the knee joints functioning and their disability. The persons in the comparison group had a higher ratio of the sense of self-efficacy (p<0.001) and a higher level of dispositional optimism (p<0.001) and assessed their quality of life and health significantly better (p<0.05). Conclusions: Ambivalent assessment of the life quality as well as dissatisfaction with one’ ; s health in the group of persons with gonarthrosis were related to the worse physical condition and low level of personal resources held.
