Title: Long-term evaluation of operative treatment of intraarticular calcaneal fractures using minimally invasive percutaneous fixation

Abstract:

The aim of the study was to evaluate the results of long-term surgical treatment of intraarticular calcaneus fractures and quality of life of operated patients using minimally invasive percutaneous fixation methods, and getting answers to the questions: what are the long-term functional and radiological results, what are the complications and what is the quality of life of the patients? The study was carried out on the research material from 1998 till 2014 of Department of Surgery of Trauma and Orthopedics 5th Military Hospital with Policlinic Independent Public Health Care Centre in Cracow (5 WSzK). There were 82 patients included, who underwent MIRPS of intraarticular calcaneal fracture, what took place from 1998 till 2012- 68 males (83%) and 14 females (17%). Included patients aged from 34 to 67, 48 years average. Males aged from 34 to 53, 41 years old average, females aged from 61 to 67, 64 years old average. In this group the radiological and functional outcome was evaluated. The other group of patients, who underwent MIRPS of intraarticular calcaneal fracture from 1998 - 2014, was assessed for quality of life - 45 males (88%) and 6 females (12%). Males aged from 22 to 63, 46 years old average, females aged from 31 to 63, 47 years old average.
