The present dissertation is aimed at examining the impact of selected gene polymorphisms on the pathogenesis of androgenetic alopecia in females, and how they correlate with family history findings as well as with demographic data and hormone test results. The studies were carried out at the Dermatology Clinic of the Department of Dermatology, Jagiellonian University, Krakow, and involved a group of patients treated over the years 2015-2019. The results showed that women constituted a majority of patients treated for FAGA in the years 2015-2018, with hypothyroidism revealed as the most commonly diagnosed hormonal disturbance (10.6%). Even though no link between selected SNPs and androgenetic alopecia in female patients in Poland was found, family histories, especially positive maternal family history, proved to be of great significance. Occurrence of alopecia in more than one family member as well as in grandparents may also be a risk factor.
