Title: Qualitative and quantitative parameters of bacterial flora in patients with mono- and polygenic forms of diabetes

Abstract:

Next generation sequencing has led to a better understanding of the human gut microbiota and its association with diabetes. The main aim of the study was to assess the qualitative and quantitative parameters of the intestinal microbiota in patients with mono- and polygenic forms of diabetes. Next generation sequencing was performed and the structure of the microbiota obtained from stool samples from 89 patients with type 1 diabetes, 23 patients with type 2 diabetes and 10 patients with maturity onset diabetes of the young with mutation in hepatocyte nuclear factor 1 alpha gene (HNF1A MODY) was analyzed. We found differences in microbiota structure between patients with type 2 diabetes and patients with HNF1A MODY. The addition of dipeptidyl peptidase 4 inhibitor (linagliptin) to current treatment did not change alpha biodiversity, beta biodiversity and the microbiota structure. We observed differences in microbiota structure and KEEG (Kyoto Encyclopedia of Genes and Genomes) pathways between patients with type 1 diabetes patients with glycosylated hemoglobin levels below 53 mmol/mol (< 7%) and type 1 diabetes patients with glycosylated hemoglobin equal to or greater than 53 mmol/mol (≥ 7%).
