Title: Analysis of activity of coagulation and fibrinolysis in the perioperative period in the context of perioperative complications in patients undergoing vascular surgery

Abstract:

This was a prospective study consisting of three main topics. We enrolled patients undergoing vascular surgery due to abdominal aortic aneurysm and peripheral artery disease, aged at least 45 years, hospitalized for at least 2 days, who underwent general or regional anesthesia. Blood samples were collected in each patient before and four times after the procedure to measure troponin T level. Additionally, markers of coagulation and fibrinolysis activity were measured in selected patients before surgery and within 6-12 hours after the procedure. Aims of the project were as follows: 1) Comparison of preoperative activity of coagulation and fibrinolysis between patients undergoing vascular surgery due to peripheral artery disease and abdominal aortic aneurysm in the context of incidence of major cardiovascular complications (myocardial infarction, stroke, death) in 30-day follow-up 2) Assessment of perioperative changes in activity of coagulation and fibrinolysis in patients undergoing vascular surgery 3) Evaluation of an association between preoperative coagulation and fibrinolysis activity and incidence of myocardial injury after non-cardiac surgery in patients undergoing vascular surgery. We included 131 patients in the final analysis, among whom markers of coagulation and fibrinolysis were measured.
