Abstract:

Introduction Satisfaction with nursing care is the key indicator of the quality of care in paediatric wards. Aim Evaluation of parents’ satisfaction with the nursing care of the child in paediatric wards. Material and methods The survey was carried out in the years 2016–2018 in a group of 1030 parents of children hospitalised in non-surgical and surgical paediatric wards. The standardised Empathic questionnaire adapted to Polish conditions was used as a research tool. Statistical analyses were carried out using the IBM SPSS Statistics 23 package. The level of significance was set at p≤0,05. Results The average level of parents’ general satisfaction with nursing care was 4,38 pts, ranging from 4,28 pts for Parental Participation to 4,57 pts for Availability. Average scores of satisfaction in specific criteria were found to be varied, ranging from 2,99 pts (The nurse introduced herself with her first name and surname) to 4,68 pts (The nurse administered the drug in proper time). The highest level of satisfaction with nursing care was expressed by parents of children above 3 years of age, admitted to a hospital on a planned basis, undergoing oncological treatment, or staying in hospital for a period shorter than 7 days or longer than 28 days. Women, parents above 30 years of age and parents with lower level of education were the most satisfied with nursing care. Conclusions The le ; vel of parents’ satisfaction with nursing care was high. The child’s age, the mode of admission, the cause and time of hospitalisation, the gender, age and education level of parents were important predictors of satisfaction with nursing care.
