Abstract:

The aim of the work is to assess the functioning of the oncology package in Poland from the perspective of the hospital's coordinating role. The following research methods were used in the work: literature review, analysis of available statistical data, questionnaire survey and analysis of data on health services provided as part of an oncological package in a selected unit. The introduction of the oncological package has shortened the waiting time for tests within initial and in-depth oncological diagnostics. The time between the suspicion of disease and the start of treatment has not been shortened. There was an improvement in the treatment coordination process, but only if the benefits are provided in one unit. In the case of services provided to the patient in many different units, coordination is very limited. From the point of view of the coordinating role, the oncology package somewhat fulfills it’s function. However, it provides greater coordination of the diagnostic stage than the treatment stage, as was assumed in the assumptions of the solution. This is an element that needs improvement.
