The main objective of the study was to assess depressiveness and its changes in the course of radical and palliative chemotherapy in patients with cancer in the context of selected sociodemographic and clinical factors, as well as to analyse the determinants of changes in depressiveness and its dimensions by looking into patients' expectations of oncologists. This was a prospective cohort study. 167 people diagnosed with cancer participated, 80 patients received radical chemotherapy, 87 palliative chemotherapy. At the beginning of therapy depressiveness concerned 37.93% of patients receiving palliative care and 15% of patients treated radically. During 4. cycle of chemotherapy: 11% and 5%, respectively. Depressiveness was significantly higher among palliative patients. The only factor having a significant impact on the size of the change in depressiveness was the time. Higher depressiveness scores during 1. measurement was observed among patients in worse general condition, with moderate and severe pain, among women and those with the lowest level of education. During 2. measurement: in the group of patients in worse general condition, with moderate and severe pain, in women and residents of the smallest communities. Expectations of help in engaging in their own treatment process, the possibility of unrestricted conversation with the doctor and the expectation of mobilization a ; nd receiving comfort played the predictive role in reduced intensity of depressiveness. Depressiveness is a significant clinical problem among patients treated with chemotherapy. Assessment of depressiveness and responding to patients' specific expectations should be carried out in all groups of cancer patients regardless of their clinical status, therapy period and predicted survival.
