Abstract:

Emergency Medical Service Team (EMS Team) is a State Emergency Medical System unit, which responds in case of medical distress, therein of obstetric character. Analyses of EMS Team response causes show that obstetric cases present a very low percentage of total responses, contrary to trauma cases or cardiovascular problems. Certain “out of the ordinary” character makes obstetric distress cases highly stressful, both for medical personnel and patients. Unfortunately no clear pre-hospital care standards for handling obstetric-related medical distress cases have been created for EMS Teams in Poland. This thesis aims at analyzing and evaluating prehospital treatment in obstetric emergencies by EMS Teams in the operating area of Krakow Ambulance Service. Furthermore, proposed algorithms for EMS Teams in case of obstetrics-related distress are presented. So far this problem has not been analyzed in Poland, which makes this thesis the first of its kind in our country.
