Abstrakt:

The study aimed to investigate the infiltrate of immune cells (mast cells, T and B lymphocytes, cytotoxic, regulatory and T helper type 2 cells) in primary invasive breast cancer tissue excisions. Densities of respective immune cells were evaluated as the numbers of positively immunostained cells using light microscope and referred to breast cancer molecular subtype and other prognostic indicators. We found differences in densities of the immune cells that point to relationship between mast cells and clinically less aggressive breast cancer molecular subtypes as well as more favourable prognostic factors. More dense infiltrate of lymphoid, cytotoxic and regulatory cells was observed in clinically more aggressive subtypes of cancer and in tumors characterized by adverse prognostic indicators. The obtained results suggest a distinct role of immune cells in cancer progression, depending on breast cancer molecular subtypes and location of the cells in tumor tissue.
