This paper deals with the bases of the concepts of therapeutic relationships in the works of Antoni Kępiński (1918-1972). A layer of phenomenological description of mental disorders is present in his publications, which was supposed to serve the practice of psychiatry which is directed to the understanding of the first person’s world of the other people’s experiences and the anthropological model which is a theoretical justification of the psychiatric issues, in particular the diagnostic and therapeutic process. The anthropological model was formed in an original concept of information metabolism which is a study of interdependencies between the rational and emotional activities of a person and of people’s relationships with the social and biological surroundings. Based on the detailed analysis of Kępiński’s works the main principles have been isolated, such as the intricate system of mutually conditioned socio-biological interactions, which allowed for the definition of the possibilities of existence of therapeutic relationships as a particular case of human communication abilities. It has been stated that the therapeutic relationships in Kępiński’s works were founded on emotional processes which form the source of meaning for individuals.
