The increase in the average age of society is a growing medical and social problem, as well as requires focusing on the issue of imbalance. The main objective of the study is to assess the impact of rehabilitation carried out in the aquatic environment on the balance of patients and to compare the obtained results with patients who had rehabilitation in the gym. The quality of life before and after the therapy will also be tested. The study was conducted among patients hospitalized at the Krzeszowice Movement Rehabilitation Center. The group of patients consisted of 137 people, randomly assigned to the study group, exercising in a water environment, and control group, having physiotherapy in the gym. The preliminary examination included: general interview, filling out a questionnaire on the quality of life SF-36 and carrying out the test on a balance platform. Patients participated in training for 4 weeks, 5 times a week for 30 minutes. The study was single - blinded - the author did not know which group the patient belongs to. After completing the monthly therapy, the patients again filled in the SF-36 questionnaire and carried out a test on the balance platform. Own research showed that patients participating in the project, both from the study and control groups were characterized by a significant improvement in the state of body balance. It is worth emphasizing, that patien ; ts exercising at the pool showed a slightly better improvement. As a result of the study, it can be concluded that physiotherapy carried out in the aquatic environment may have a greater impact on improving the balance of the body and the quality of life of the patient in comparison to exercises carried out in the gym.
