Abstrakt:

Limited health literacy (HL) and e-health literacy (eHL) may result in undertaking wrong health-related decisions. Older people are faced with health challenges that force them to use the resources of the health care system more intensively, and on the other hand, these people demonstrate lower HL and eHL more frequently. The aim of the study was to assess the level and identification of factors influencing HL and eHL among Polish citizens in mature and late adulthood. The analysis of the levels of HL and eHL and their impact on health behaviors and the utilization of health care resources was also performed. This thesis is based on the results of a diagnostic survey conducted in a representative sample of Polish population (n=1000) aged at least 50, performed in December 2017. The diagnostic survey was conducted as a computer-assisted telephone interview. The population of people aged 50+ is rather homogeneous when it comes to the level of HL and eHL. The level of HL and eHL was related to some health behaviors and variables reflecting the use of health care services. Interestingly, the higher level of both types of literacy was related to lower self-rated health. The results of this thesis may be important for guiding interventions aimed at improving health and e health literacy in mature and late adulthood.
