In the series of papers constituting this dissertation, the usefulness of post-mortem computed tomography examination in combination with classic forensic autopsy in cases of the victims of traffic accidents was analysed. In particular in the field of accident victims from inside the car and motorcyclists. In addition, the usefulness of post-mortem computed tomography examinations in selected cases of pedestrians accidents with the significant severity of injuries was also presented. On the basis of the obtained results, it can be pointed out that the combination of the post-mortem computed tomography examination with the forensic autopsy in the above cases allowed to obtain a significantly higher number of injuries in the scope of the skeletal system. In particular, this applies to areas that are difficult to access during a forensic autopsy or are not included in the standard procedure, such as the facial skeleton or spine processes. In the case of victims from the interior of the vehicle, the usefulness of post-mortem computed tomography in relation to the autopsy was also found in the detection of the presence of extravasated blood in the cerebral chambers and the detection of lung damage. The undoubted advantage is also the possibility of quick and easy identification of gas spaces, both physiological and pathological, which gives a significant advantage of this technique i ; n comparison with the standard autopsy. In conclusion - post-mortem CT scan significantly supplements the post-mortem examination of victims of traffic accidents and should be part of routine post mortem procedure in such cases.
