The main aim of the presented research is the evaluation of selected conditions related to the quality of life of the patients hospitalized due to COPD, taking into account the medical and psychosocial conditions. The study looked at 200 patients hospitalized due to COPD, including 114 men (72,00%) and 56 women (28%).The results of the research have enabled the evaluation of the importance of the selected psychological factors such as the sense of coherence, optimism and the level of anxiety, socioeconomical factors such as sex, age, marital status, level of eduaction, the source of income and place of living, and finally medical factors such as the severity of the disease on the quality of life of the patients hospitalized due to COPD. What is more, they enabled the determination of the desired directions for the psychological actions of the medical staff. It has been shown that the caracteristic quality of life connected to the disease (SGRQ) diminishes considerably along with the increase of dyspnoea, the level of anxiety, the number of hospitalizations and the age of the patients. On the other hand, the general quality of life (SWLS) would improve considerably together with the increase of feeling of coherance whereas the anxiety and the number of hospitalizations resulted with the patients’ worse quality of life. It has been noted that the medical factors and psychological ; factors had a bigger influence on the quality of the examined patients’ lives than the socidemographic factors, the influence of the last mentioned factors was also significant.
