The most common compounds present in the exhaled air are the Volatile Sulphur Compounds (VSCs) produced by bacteria. The main aim of the trial was to evaluate changes in VSCs concentrations in patients with halitosis following topical pharmacological treatment. In addition, the following research objectives were decided:- A comparison of the efficacy of halitosis treatment using selected methods,· A comparison of two diagnostic methods used in patients with halitosis,· Evaluation of the suitability of the HALT questionnaire in patients with halitosis in order to assess the quality of life,· Development of a methodology for the management of patients with halitosis. The realization of the aims of the work required a study, which received the positive opinion of the Bioethics Commission of the Jagiellonian University (KBET / 106 / B / 2011).60 patients were enrolled into the study. The study was conducted in a cross-over study design. The results were analyzed statistically. An own research has made it possible to achieve the objectives set in the assumptions of the work.
