Abstract:

The aim of this study was to evaluate the results of total hip arthroplasties using the short-stem type of prosthesis Proxima, Biomet Taperloc Short (BTS) and the Tri-Lock (TL). The aim of the study was carried out on the research material of Department of Surgery of Trauma and Orthopedics 5th Military Clinic Hospital with Policlinic Independent Public Health Care Centre in Krakow (5thMCH) and Ward of Multi-Organ Trauma, Orthopaedics and Neurosurgery Louis Rydygier’s Specialist Hospital in Krakow (SH). In total, the presented material included 264 patients, who undergone standart-stem or short-stem cementless THA because of arthritis, 142 male (53,8%) and 122 female (46,2%).The results led to the following conclusions:The short-stem THR in short and long-term observation gives very good and good functional and radiological results, especially in patients who suffered from idiopathic arthritis.The effectiveness of the prosthesis stem metaphyseal type Proxima implantation into the marrow cavity of the proximal femur stump, which is characterizes his primary and secondary stabilization depends on the correct classification for the surgery, convincing surgical technique and specific anatomical situation.
