The main objective of this study was to determine whether transperineal 2D/3D/4D ultrasound imaging is significant in pre-operative diagnostics of patients with POP and UI. Detailed objectives were: a) to validate on own material currently used and established ultrasound parameters of pelvic floor evaluation and 2) to develop new ultrasound indicators significant in the preoperative assessment of POP and UI.This was a prospective study conducted in randomly selected women hospitalized in Gynecology and Oncology Department of Collegium Medicum at the Jagiellonian University in Krakow in years 2012-2015.This study confirmed that the significant parameters of ultrasound image during Valsalva’s maneuver in women with urinary incontinence are: BSD distance, alpha angle, beta angle, gamma angle and funneling sign. The new, original parameter, also of vital significance, turned out to be a total width of urethra determined as the sum of the width of urethra measured at its three levels. In women with POP, ultrasound examination was consistent with the clinical POPQ scale in 78,9%. Underestimation of prolapse in clinical exam was found more often in milder forms of POP. Along with the severity of POP, the surface area of the genital hiatus increased during the stress test.
