Results The present study revealed that there are differences in the physical development between the students from traditional and sports primary schools. Both boys and girls form the sports school were taller and had higher body mass than their peers from a traditional school. The sports school students were generally characterized by higher body circumferences, however the boys had tendency towards lowering of BMI values. In the sports school, despite increased physical activity, the overweight and obesity were more frequent. Particularly, numerous cases of lower body fatness and lower limb dysfunction have been observed. Additionally, idiopathic scoliosis cases were almost two times more frequent among girls from the traditional school compared with the sports school, and more frequent among girls than boys from the sports school. Development acceleration of many somatic features and shift of development between boys and girls by time of about one or two years has been observed.Conclusions1. The research initiated by the author, is a pioneer study which may contribute developing a Child of Tarnow, which is an anthropometric picture of children and adolescents from Tarnów city in Poland. Sin ; ce similar studies have been carried out for neighboring cities, e.g. Kraków and Rzeszów, the necessity of analogous study for Tarnów seems to be urgent. The results of such study are a valuable feedback on developmental and social-health problems of Tarnów community and they facilitate the designing of adequate prophylactic operations. The results are also an introduction for more complex investigation which will be realized in the future among the population of Tarnów city.Aim of the thesisThe main goal of the dissertation was to evaluate the influence of sport commitment and home environment on the course of physical development and health condition of students from sports and traditional primary schools.Materials and methodsThe dataset for research comprised 264-people sample – aged 9–13 years old, males and females. In the dissertation somatic indices of physical development based on anthropometric measurements of the examined group of children has been presented and interpreted using percentile charts. Modern, however not commonly used methods of assessment and diagnosis of body posture disorders (TPC) and cardiac conduction system dysfunctions (ECG), as well as evaluation of anthropometric measures, have been employed. Additionally, a survey has been conducted, in order to establish environmental influences on somatic development. A questionnaire about home environment h ; as been prepared, 596 responses have been collected and processed. As a result, correlatives, which may affect children’s development and their health attitudes, have been found. In order to characterize the physical activity level of the children’s parents, another standardized research tool IPAQ has been employed.
