Tytuł: The phytochemical analysis and evaluation of the biological activity of extracts and selected metabolites of Impatiens parviflora DC

Abstrakt:

Impatiens parviflora DC., small balsam is an annual plant from the Balsaminaceae family. Most of the scientific papers on I. parviflora have focused on the ecology of this plant species, whereas data on its chemistry and biological activity is still very limited. Thus, the aim of this study was to analyse the phytochemical constituents and biological activity of extracts and compounds isolated from this plant species. For the study, methanol and chloroform extracts obtained from roots, stems and leaves (fresh and dried) were used. Preliminary phytochemical analysis was performed on portions of residues from each extracts. They were analysed for the presence of major groups of plant metabolites, according to standard methods (TLC, HPLC). Our results confirmed previous reports on flavonoids, phenolic acids and carotenoids in leaves of I. parviflora, whereas the presence of β-amyrin, scopoletin, isoquercitrin, kaempferol, umbelliferone, saponins, glycoglicerolipids (MGDG, DGDG, SQDG) was revealed for the first time. The phytochemical investigation led to the isolation of five compounds from the methanol extracts of leaves: two saponins (IPS-1, IPS-2 – derivatives of camelliagenin A), two galactosyldiacylglycerols (MGDG and DGDG) and flavonoid (kaempferol-3-O-glucoside). The structures of the compounds were elucidated by means of chemical and spectral methods (HR-ESI-MS, UPLC-MS/MS ; , 1H NMR, 13C NMR, DEPT-135, 2D NMR: COSY, HSQC, HMBC, TOCSY, ROESY). Four of the isolated compounds (saponins, MGDG, DGDG) were identified in the species for the first time. Moreover, the isolated saponins (IPS-1, IPS-2) are new structures and are reported for the first time. In this study we evaluated the activities of chloroform and methanol extracts from the leaves, stems and roots of the species as well as some isolated metabolites (MGDG, DGDG, IPS-1) in vitro. Our investigation has shown diverse anti-inflammatory, cytotoxic, antioxidant and hyaluronidase inhibitory activity.
