The aim of this study was to confirm the existence of a link between the concentration in the blood serum of UM and the prevalence of CKD. The study group included adult patients with CKD stage I-N. The association between serum concentrations of UM, and serum creatinine, cystatin C, and the values of all available data calculated from eGFR formulas was analyzed. The relationship between the serum concentration of UM and biochemical markers of inflammation, calcium-phosphate, malnutrition, peripheral blood counts and NTproBNP was also analyzed. Serum UM decreases with progressive loss of kidney function; this is significantly and negatively correlated with the concentration of creatinine and cystatin C and positively correlated with all applied variables in the analysis models for estimating GFR. The analysis showed that the relationship between UM concentration and eGFR remains independent of key demographics. Based on the results of research and statistical analysis it is proposed to recognize the serum concentration of UM as a new biomarker for assessing renal function.
