Praca doktorska
Carpal tunnel syndrome (CTS) is the most common entrapment neuropathy. Clinical history, physical examination and electrodiagnostic testing are „gold standard“ for its diagnosis. The aim of the study is to assess the usefulness of high frequency ultrasound (US) in Carpal tunnel syndrome (CTS) for patient qualification to surgical therapy, and evaluation of postoperative efficacy of the treatment. The author performed herself wrist US examinations in 62 patients qualified to surgical CTS treatment (50 women, 12 men; 28-70 years old, mean age 55,2), with the use of high frequency broadband linear transducer (6-18 MHz, with the use of 18 MHz band) of MyLab 70/Esaote US unit. At least 2 sonographic evaluations of median nerve (level: wrist) and surrounding structures were performed: before and 3 months after operation. The collected data served to multiple analyses to meet the objectives of the thesis. Obtained data and results of these analyses confirmed, that high frequency US is a valuable diagnostic tool for both patient qualification to surgical CTS therapy, and postoperative assessment of the treatment efficacy.
